Development on a dime - Mosier Information Services Blog

About This Blog

By Jim Mosier

Hi there, welcome to Development on a dime. I am your humble host, Jim Mosier. This blog is hosted by my company, Mosier Information Services (for free, none the less - it's good to be the boss!) We are a Web Development company that frequently "steps outside the box" and has made a nice little specialty of helping smaller companies design and deploy a systems strategy for their business. If you don't know what that is, there are a few blog posts on here that pretty much explain it, as well as why I believe it is an important thing to have.

When and how did this blog come about?

I started this blog in December 2007, but the writings began much, much before that. You see, I never really got into the "blog" thing, since 6 out of 10 blogs I ran across just seemed to be about how great blogging is. You can rest assured that you WON'T find that here.

So, back to the story - I just kept writing my little articles, mostly on a rant of some form or another, doing a fabulously wonderful job of keeping them to myself. These little articles have been written throughout the last several years of my career and span the time from when I owned a little computer store, through my corporate management career and all the way to now, when I've founded one of the best companies on the planet.

I never was really sure what I was going to do with all these little articles, though. I thought maybe after a few years I would start revisiting them and maybe combine it all to make a book someday... or something. Since that hasn't happened, I decided I will start digging them out and putting them online, as well as some new ones too - since I really do love to write.

So why now, and why the name "development on a dime"?

As for the timing, quite frankly, it's just that I finally woke up and realized that not all blogs are just about blogs and it makes absolutely no sense to keep all my writings to myself. I chose the name "Development On a Dime" because web development and database development are what I do for a living - and what my company charges for its services is pretty modest compared to what we deliver.

That's not just sales talk, either. One of the greatest things about my job is that I love what I do. A lot. If it wasn't for the mortgage and the living expenses, I would seriously not care about getting paid for it. Really.

How often will you update this?

Often. I am committing myself to no less than one new article per week, but will continue to add some of the older ones as I find them. Keep in mind how many hard drives, backups, computers and archives there are it is quite possible I will publish that book before they're all up here.

If you want to contact me, please do so via the Website Contact form. It's OK to email me directly if you want, but know that my response will come much faster if submitted over the web. Perhaps I will write the reason for this in an upcoming blog post.

Also if you're looking for a Web Development Company, I would appreciate the chance to earn your business. Likewise, if you are a fellow web professional looking for work, take a look at our career center as we post some available positions from time to time as well!
