Taking Stock of Your Company’s SEO Campaign

Taking Stock of Your Company’s SEO Campaign

How successful has your company’s SEO (search engine optimization) campaign been? Have you seen an increase in traffic and you’ve been converting site visits into sales? If not, you may need to take a hard look at your SEO strategy. At its core SEO is about making changes to the content on your website, so search engines like Google or Bing notice it and improve the sites ranking.

If you have put time and effort into SEO and there has been little to no improvement over a few months in your search engine results page (SERP) rankings, then your marketing department has been doing something wrong. While it’s true that it takes time to see results in your company’s SEO campaign, it shouldn’t drag out. If it’s true of your company that your SEO results have been slow in developing, then let’s look at some ways to analyze what you have been doing wrong.

SEO Analysis

In order to truly know why your SEO efforts are failing it will take in-depth analysis. Fortunately, there are SEO analysis tools that can help you to determine why your SEO efforts just aren’t working. If you don’t analyze your SEO, then you are feeling your way in the dark. You can’t improve your SEO if you don’t know what’s wrong.  Here are some tools that can help you to decipher why your SEO strategy hasn’t been effective.

Google Search Console

With any SEO analysis you always want to start with Google; with that in mind why not go straight to the source. Google Search Console is free for anyone to use. It lets you glean valuable information about your website and the people who visit it. Google Search Console informs you how many users have visited your site and how they found it. The service shows you if more people are visiting your site on a smartphone, tablet or PCU, and which pages on your site are the most visited. The first thing you will need to do is verify your site before you can take advantage of Google Search Console. Verifying your account is simple, just log into your Google account and follow the step by step instructions.

Moz Pro

Like Google Search Console, Moz Pro offers tools to help you improve your SERP ranking and visibility to search engines. Unlike Google, this service requires a monthly fee. Moz Pro also does a lot of the work for you that Google Search Console does not like putting all of the metrics into a spreadsheet. It will create a list of Keywords for you, and it will crawl your site to find any issues.  There is much more Moz Pro can do for you if you’re willing to pay $99 a month to improve your SEO.

Keeping up With the Competition

You need to know how your competition is faring with SEO, and if the Great American Widget Company is your biggest competitor outside of the digital world, other competitors could be outpacing you in e-commerce without your company realizing it. You should always have a competitor analysis before formulating an SEO plan.

Analytics Are Key

You need to know what your analytics are and what they mean. Learning the terminology involved with analytics will help you to understand better the reports you receive. Bounce Rate, Click Through Rate, Unique Visitor, and other terms mean so you can decipher your analytics report.

If you find that you don’t have the skill or time to plan your SEO strategy, there is no shame in hiring professionals who can do the work. A company that deals on a daily basis with SEO can give you an effective strategy to improve your SERP rankings.

Regardless of if you do it yourself, or you hire SEO professionals, gauging and keep track of your SEO effectiveness will pay dividends.
