What do you do when someone calls you out in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge? You have the choice of either:
1) Donating $100 to the ALS Association, or
2) Dumping a bucket of ice-cold water on your head.
Or, in Jim Mosier’s case, both. Called out by a good friend on Facebook, Jim initially tried to get out of it by just making the donation, but his staff had different plans for him.
“ALS is a motor neuron disease and what happens with ALS your motor neurons start to die and they are what transmit the signals from your brain down to your muscles to tell them what to do.”
ALS often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease ultimately paralyzes you, often times resulting in death after a 2 to 5 year period.
There is currently no cure for this disease.
ALSA is a nationwide organization that raises money to help find a cure.
For Jim, the challenge is a little bit personal, as he knows someone that is affected by the disease. In fact, his donation to the ALSA was made in honor of that person, Belinda Poole.
“I think the level of awareness and money raised so far is awesome,” Jim said. “I only hope that other worthy causes can learn from this and come up with ways to make thier message go viral. This is definitely one for the record books.”
